Sun's SPARC rise
Recall Sun's decision to GPL the hardware-level design for its latest SPARC chips? Now here in Europe, there's a plant shipping silicon using the design. (Thanks, Jim!)

Heres a link to the company ("Simply RISC") that is shipping the processor.
I didn't find any other solid information about the chip, but regardless it is a great idea. Lets see if this concept takes off.
