the freedom to connect

This year's Freedom to Connect (F2C) conference (April 3&4, Washington DC) promises to be quite a show. The battle over network neutrality is coming to a head. And this conference, hosted by Pulvermedia and David Isenberg, will be a focal point in that debate. Details.

I still don't get this "networkneutrality" thing. I cannot connect to a sip phone via my web browser, nor can I connect to IRC without an IRC client. if I put up a web server that only connects to microsoft browsers, how does that undermine network neutrality? The rest of the network is still there. If I offer a cache service under contract to content providers that speeds up loads on some pages, how is that different than what akamai has done for years?

I can see a risk to one company running the whole show, but it's not as if people have no choice.

Thanks Larry!!!

If anybody feels that they need to be at F2C: Freedom to Connect, but the price of admission makes it difficult or impossible, please write to me -- isen at isen dot com -- and make a case. It does not have to be too elaborate, just help me understand your interest in being there and your circumstances -- if YOU think you should be there, then I probably do too, so let's conspire to make it happen!
