When a law professor is given a “chair” s/he gives a lecture in honor of the honor. I am the Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership. On February 19, at 5pm @ HLS, I was scheduled to give my chair lecture. After Aaron’s death, I asked the Dean to let me reschedule the lecture. But after some more thought, I’ve decided to make the lecture about Aaron, and about how we need to honor his work. Anyone is invited. More details to follow.

I am so sorry for the tragic loss of your friend Aaron Swartz.
My understanding is that federal prosecutors were only willing to accept a plea deal from Mr. Swartz in connection with the MIT case if he agreed to prison time, and apparently the threat of as many as 30 years in prison hung over his head.
The unjust manner in which Mr. Swartz was treated is highlighted by the fact that in numerous cases numerous reputed mobsters over the last several years have been given nothing more than probation upon their convictions, and I thought you may find the following recent article on lenient sentencing in mob cases instructive: http://bitterqueen.typepad.com/friends_of_ours/2013/01/congress-must-enact-a-law-to-mandate-prison-terms-in-mob-cases.html
