With all the misery in Iraq, does it really matter if Bremer is not compliant with copyright law??

  • Matthew Saroff

    Actually, it does matter.

The CPA drew up this law, and blithely ignored it.

It reinforces the CPA in particular, and the US in general as being lawless actors on the Iraqi stage, which could lead to further conflict.

For those of us who don’t want to make Yet Another Registration,
could someone summarize the main facts of the WaPo story?

    Thanks.

Absolutely, it matters. Human-rights violations are ho-hum, but copyright violations can get trade sanctions!

In today’s world, the Geneva Convention can be discarded with impunity, but woe unto anyone who ignores the Berne Convention. 1/2 :-)

Sigh… I have access to the print Post.
Can someone just say what the story is specifically about (or
how to find it in the print paper?) While the Post has the
right to make annoying rules for access to their site
(and I have this weird ethical thing about either following those
rules or not using the site myself)
they have no exclusive claim to a story’s facts or citation.

For the Post-impaired – the CPA stole the HTML for their website from the Brookings Institute.

Thanks. Apparently this broke about a month ago; see

    for a summary.
